On behalf of the host organisation committee, I would like to cordially invite you to the 52nd Annual Conference of the Particle Therapy Co-Operative Group (PTCOG 52), which will take place at the Congress Center in Essen, Germany, 2–8 June 2013 and will be hosted by the West German Proton Therapy Centre Essen.
PTCOG 52 will start with an Educational Workshop from 3–5 June and will continue with a Scientific Meeting from 5–8 June.
We are anticipating approximately 800 international scientists, a conglomerate which will offer the opportunity to network and to share technical and clinical news on particle therapy. The Educational Workshop will provide an overview of the clinical, physical, and biological basics of particle therapy with particular consideration to new advances, innovations, and prospective developments. For the Scientific Meeting we have identified some topics of major interest: image guidance, treatment planning, moving targets, proton beam therapy in children, and evidence-based particle therapy.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to visit the West German Proton Therapy Centre Essen. The symbiosis of technological, medical and knowledge transfer is the basis of any progress in radiotherapy and particle therapy in particular.
We hope PTCOG 52 will support active discussions of innovative findings and visions, be an inspiration and promote networks amongst experts to further progress the field of particle therapy.
Along with the scientific program, we are providing an exciting social program to introduce you into the beauty of the Ruhr district, named after the river Ruhr. The "Ruhr Metropolis" Essen is located in the centre of the Ruhr district and ranks among one of Germany`s ten largest cities with approximately 570,000 inhabitants. During the last century, Essen became generally known as the European leader in the coal and steel industry, which is expressed by well known monuments of its industrial heritage, especially the UNESCO world heritage site "Zeche Zollverein" – where we will enjoy our social dinner. There have been many structural changes in the past few decades, and the economic centre of gravity and culture in Essen has transformed. "Change through culture – culture through change" was the slogan when Essen, along with the Ruhr District, was nominated by the European Commission as the European Capital of Culture of 2010. Let us experience the highlights of the Ruhr region together – you will be surprised!
We are looking forward to welcoming you in Essen,
